Cookies Policy

Effective date: May 27, 2026
Last updated: May 27, 2026

1. What Are Cookies

Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit websites. They help websites remember your preferences, analyze traffic, and improve functionality. This Cookies Policy explains how GenLibX uses cookies and similar technologies (such as local storage, pixels, and session storage). By using our website, you consent to our use of cookies as described herein.

2. Types of Cookies We Use

2.1 Strictly Necessary Cookies

These cookies are essential for the website to function properly. They enable core features such as security, authentication, load balancing, and network management. You cannot opt out of these cookies as the Service would not work without them. Examples: session identifiers, CSRF tokens.

2.2 Functional Cookies

These cookies remember your preferences, such as language selection, theme (dark/light mode), and saved code snippets. They enhance your experience by personalizing the interface. You may disable these, but some features may become less convenient.

2.3 Analytics & Performance Cookies

We use analytics cookies to understand how users interact with our platform—which features are used most, error rates, and navigation patterns. This helps us improve performance and fix bugs. We collect anonymous, aggregated data. We may use tools like Plausible or self-hosted analytics that do not track individuals.

2.4 Marketing Cookies (Optional)

GenLibX does not serve third-party ads. However, we may use limited marketing cookies to measure the effectiveness of our own promotional campaigns (e.g., referral sources). These are disabled by default and only enabled with your explicit consent.

3. Specific Cookies We Use

Below is a non-exhaustive list of cookies our platform may set:

  • gn_session — Strictly necessary, expires after browser close. Stores encrypted session ID.
  • gn_preferences — Functional, persists for 12 months. Stores user settings like code editor theme.
  • gn_analytics_id — Analytics, persists for 24 months. Anonymous unique identifier for usage statistics.
  • gn_auth_token — Necessary, expires based on "Remember me" setting. Maintains logged-in status.

4. Third-Party Cookies

We may integrate with third-party services that set their own cookies:

  • GitHub / GitLab OAuth: When you connect your account, these services may set authentication cookies. Refer to their respective cookie policies.
  • Payment Processors: For enterprise billing, our payment partners may use necessary cookies. We do not directly process credit cards.

We do not control third-party cookies and recommend reviewing their policies.

5. Your Cookie Preferences

Upon your first visit, we display a cookie banner allowing you to accept or reject non-essential cookies. You can change your preferences at any time by clicking the "Cookie Settings" link in our footer.

Most browsers also allow you to block or delete cookies via browser settings. However, disabling necessary cookies may break core functionality. Instructions for popular browsers:

  • Chrome: Settings → Privacy and Security → Third-party cookies
  • Firefox: Options → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
  • Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Block all cookies
  • Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions

6. Do Not Track Signals

Some browsers transmit "Do Not Track" (DNT) signals. Our platform does not currently respond to DNT headers because there is no consistent industry standard. However, we limit tracking to strictly necessary and anonymized analytics only.

7. Cookie Duration

Session cookies expire when you close your browser. Persistent cookies remain on your device until their expiration date or until you manually delete them. Our persistent cookies typically expire within 12–24 months.

8. Updates to This Policy

We may revise this Cookies Policy as technology or regulations evolve. The "Last updated" date at the top indicates recent changes. Continued use of our website after updates implies acceptance.
